Now here’s an ABC book that makes me hungry!

My Foodie ABC: A Little Gourmet’s Guide is a wonderful board book that stresses the importance of having a healthy relationship with food while teaching the letters of the alphabet.

The 22 full color pages captured my toddler’s attention and she listened intently as I read the descriptions for each letter (for example B is for Bento Box!)

The writer Puck, who also wrote the Cool Counting Books series, does a great job in introducing exotic foods like dragon fruit and jicama. I love that there are pronunciations included too. Now I know how to say “alfajores”, a cookie I definitely want to try one day.

The artwork is clever. Illustrator Violet Lemay creates a simple layout with scanned items behind each letter. She even used a bamboo cutting board for one of the designs!

Recommended for kids 3-6, as an adult I adore it. It’s educational, hip and unique!

Published by Duo Press, MY Foodie ABC is $8.95 and available starting September 2010.

I just received a newly released book called Organically Raised: Conscious Cooking For Babies And Toddlers that is filled with healthy recipes to make for the kids. It’s written by a mom named Anni Daulter who wanted to teach families how easy it is to make wholesome food at home.

I just received a newly released book called Organically Raised: Conscious Cooking For Babies And Toddlers that is filled with healthy recipes to make for the kids. It’s written by a mom named Anni Daulter who wanted to teach families how easy it is to make wholesome food at home.

Looking through the pages, Organically Raised is not just a cookbook. This one is very zen. Accompanying each recipe, you’ll find a Mama Mantra to inspire while preparing meals. For example, when making Poppy’s Three-Cheese “Fancy” Panini, the mantra given is “My joy is the secret ingredient that makes this meal complete.”

You don’t have to be a health or yoga nut to appreciate the recipes. The warm, inviting photos make everything look mouthwatering. Luna’s Pan-Seared Halibut With Lemon Caper-Sauce And Parmesan Linguine is a meal I plan to try and cook for the family soon.

Organically Raised has garnished some pretty famous fans. Gwyneth Paltrow, Gwen Stefani, Ricki Lake and Christy Turlington have all given nice reviews. Now I can add Mogul Baby to that list!

Published by Rodale Books, this can be found at Amazon.com for $14.95.

For children of blended families there’s a new book out now called Dad and Pop. At the beginning you’ll find a young girl introducing her biological father and her stepfather in framed pictures.
For children of blended families there’s a new book out now called Dad and Pop. At the beginning you’ll find a young girl introducing her biological father and her stepfather in framed pictures. Even though the two dads have separate interests (“Pop wears boots” and “Dad wears suits”) and look different from each other, they’re both in the same boat in that they love her.

The author, Kelly Bennett, definitely makes the two men in the girl’s life total opposites. Illustrator Paul Meisel makes the drawings fun and engaging. For example, on one page where “Dad loves music”, he’s depicted enjoying a classical concert. On the opposing page it reads, “So Does Pop”, and shows him playing an electric guitar.

Overall, I think Dad and Pop gives a positive message to kids whose parents are remarried and since Father’s Day is coming up I think this would make a neat gift to give to dads and stepfathers. This hardcover book is published by Candlewick Press is $15.99 and is recommend for kids ages 4-7.
