Things To Do In NYC: The Berenstain Bears Live! Family Matters The Musical

Last weekend me, the hub, and our two children went to see The Berenstain Bears Live! Family Matters The Musical in New York City. I had told my friend about it over the phone and she decided to come along too and bring her 2-year-old daughter. The theatre, located at the Marjorie S. Dean Little Theatre on 5 West 63rd St is small so any seat has a good view.

We had “VIB” (Very Important Bears) tickets so the kids (and us parents) were allowed to sit on “the grass” in the front of the stage.

The musical brings to life the characters based on the classic book series by Stan and Jan Berenstein. The cast, especially those who play mama bear, papa bear, brother bear and sister bear are really good. They were engaging and I felt kept the whole story smooth and running the whole 55 minutes, perfect for little ones’ attention spans. The story has messages like don’t talk to strangers and don’t keep secrets from your family, which any age would be able to understand.

As I looked through the audience, most of the kids were wearing the bear ears they received when they walked in. My children sat still the entire time and so did my friend’s toddler! I was surprised but happy.

At the end children can meet the cast, take photos with them and get their noses painted too. Very cute and nice to get the kids involved.  It was my little cubs’ first musical experience. I recommend this also to tiny tots that have never been to the theatre before. It’s a engaging musical for families looking to find something fun to do in NYC.
